Everything you need to know before your first order
Not at all. Every single kit we sell is designed with complete beginners in mind. When you open the box, you will find illustrated step-by-step instructions that walk you through the entire process, from unboxing to your first harvest. The soil pods come pre-measured, seeds are pre-portioned into easy-to-use packets, and the planters include built-in water reservoirs so you cannot accidentally over-water or under-water your plants. We have had customers who have never grown so much as a cactus successfully harvest fresh basil, lettuce, and microgreens within a few weeks. If you can fill a glass of water and place a pot near a window, you have all the skills you need.
Our kits are specifically engineered for compact living. The Microgreens Starter fits on a space about the size of an A4 sheet of paper, roughly 30cm by 21cm. The Windowsill Herb Kit requires approximately 60cm of window ledge depth and works on most standard Irish windowsills. The Balcony Salad System is our largest offering and needs about 60cm wide by 40cm deep of floor space, plus about 90cm of vertical clearance for the three tiers. Each product page includes exact dimensions so you can measure your available space before ordering. Many of our customers in Dublin and Cork studio apartments tell us they were surprised by how little room was needed.
We recommend the Microgreens Starter at โฌ19.95 as your first kit. Microgreens are the most forgiving plants to grow. They do not require direct sunlight, they germinate quickly (typically within 3-5 days), and you can harvest and eat them within 7-10 days. This gives you a fast and satisfying first experience. Once you feel confident, the Windowsill Herb Kit at โฌ29.95 is a natural next step, as herbs like basil and thyme are also relatively straightforward but take a little longer to mature. You can also take our short quiz on the homepage to receive a personalised kit recommendation based on your available space, sunlight, and what you like to cook.
Every kit arrives as a complete growing system. You do not need to buy anything extra. Here is what you will find inside:
All you need to add is tap water and a spot in your home that matches the light requirements described in the guide.
You can browse and purchase kits without creating an account if you prefer a quick checkout. However, creating an account takes about 60 seconds and gives you access to order tracking, personalised growing tips based on your kit history, and early access to seasonal collections. To get started, visit our Kits page, choose the kit that suits your space, and follow the checkout process. We accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as PayPal. If you registered through the form on our homepage, your account is already set up and you will receive your personalised recommendation by email within a few hours.
Details about what we offer and how our kits work
Our current range includes 12 different kit varieties across four categories:
We rotate seasonal varieties throughout the year. Spring kits, for example, include varieties like Dill and Mizuna that thrive in the longer daylight hours from March to June. Check our Kits page for the current seasonal selection.
Yes, this is one of the things that sets our kits apart. Ireland has a maritime climate with mild temperatures, high humidity, and relatively lower light levels compared to continental Europe. Many generic gardening kits sold online are designed for sunnier climates and can underperform here. Our seed varieties are selected and tested specifically for Irish conditions. For example, we use slow-bolt coriander cultivars that cope better with the variable light levels common in west-facing Dublin apartments, and our lettuce varieties are chosen for their tolerance of cooler overnight temperatures typical on balconies in Galway or Cork. Our soil blends also account for the humidity levels common in Irish homes, with drainage characteristics that prevent the root rot that can be a problem in damper environments.
Absolutely. Once you have your planters from a full kit, you can order refill packs that include new seeds and soil pods without the planter hardware. These refill packs are available for all our plant varieties and cost between โฌ9.95 and โฌ14.95 depending on the type. This makes it much more affordable to keep growing season after season. Refill packs are available on our Kits page under the "Refills" tab. We also offer a bundle deal where you can mix and match three refill packs for a reduced price. The soil pods have a shelf life of approximately 12 months when stored in a cool, dry place, and the seed packets remain viable for at least two full growing seasons.
Our planters are built to last multiple growing seasons. The windowsill planters are made from recycled polypropylene, which is food-safe, UV-resistant, and dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning between plantings. With normal indoor use, you can expect them to last at least 3-4 years. The Balcony Salad System uses powder-coated galvanised steel frames with UV-stabilised recycled plastic inserts. These are designed to withstand outdoor Irish weather, including rain and wind, and come with a two-year material warranty. If any component breaks or deteriorates during the warranty period, we will replace it free of charge. We also sell individual replacement parts for the Balcony System so you do not need to buy an entirely new kit if one tier needs replacing.
Yes, all of our kits can be sent as gifts. During checkout, you can select the "Send as Gift" option, which adds a personalised card message and removes any pricing information from the delivery. We also offer digital gift cards in denominations of โฌ20, โฌ30, โฌ50, and โฌ75 that are delivered instantly by email. These are popular around Christmas, Mother's Day, and housewarming occasions. The gift card recipient can use the code at checkout to pick whichever kit suits their space. Gift cards are valid for 24 months from the date of purchase and can be used in a single transaction or split across multiple orders if the balance allows.
Tips and guidance for successful indoor growing
This varies by kit, and the included guide specifies exact light requirements for each variety. As a general rule, herbs and salad greens do best with 4-6 hours of direct or bright indirect sunlight per day. A south-facing or west-facing window in most Irish homes will provide this during the growing season from March to October. During the shorter days of winter (November to February), you may notice slower growth, which is completely normal. Microgreens are the exception and actually require very little light. They grow well on a kitchen counter with ordinary room lighting, making them ideal for north-facing apartments or homes with limited window space. If your space is particularly dark, we offer an optional LED grow light accessory for โฌ18.95 that clips onto our planters and provides the spectrum plants need without consuming much electricity.
Our Windowsill Herb Kit and Balcony Salad System both feature self-watering reservoirs. You simply fill the reservoir once, and the plants draw moisture as needed through capillary wicks in the soil pods. In a typical Irish home, the reservoir on the herb kit lasts about 4-5 days before needing a top-up. The Balcony System lasts about 3 days in summer (more in winter when evaporation is lower). There is a small indicator on each planter that shows when the water level is getting low. Microgreen trays do not have reservoirs, but they only need a light misting once or twice a day using the spray bottle included in the kit. The growing guide specifies exact watering schedules for each variety, and our email support team can help you troubleshoot if you notice any signs of over-watering or under-watering.
Harvest times depend on the plant variety and growing conditions, but here are typical timelines for our most popular plants:
These are approximate times based on average Irish indoor temperatures of 18-22ยฐC. Cooler homes may see slightly longer growing periods. Many of these plants, especially herbs and lettuce, are cut-and-come-again, meaning you can harvest multiple times from the same planting.
We stand behind every kit with a 30-day growth guarantee. If your seeds have not sprouted within the expected timeframe listed in your guide, and you have followed the included instructions for watering, light, and temperature, simply contact our support team with a photo and a brief description of your setup. We will either send you replacement seed pods at no extra cost or work with you to troubleshoot the issue. In most cases where plants struggle, the cause is one of three things: too little light, incorrect watering, or temperatures that are too cold (below 15ยฐC). Our team can usually identify the problem from a single photo and suggest a simple fix. We genuinely want your plants to succeed, so do not hesitate to reach out before the 30 days are up.
All of our kits work indoors, and the Balcony Salad System is specifically designed for sheltered outdoor use on balconies and patios. Herbs can also be moved outdoors during the warmer months (May to September in Ireland) as long as they are in a sheltered spot that receives reasonable sunlight and is protected from strong wind. We do not recommend placing the Windowsill Herb Kit outdoors permanently, as the planters are designed for indoor drainage. Microgreens should always be grown indoors where you can control moisture and temperature. If you want to transition your herbs outdoors for summer, gradually acclimatise them over about a week by placing them outside for a few hours each day, increasing the time gradually, before leaving them out full-time.
Our soil pods contain a slow-release organic fertiliser blend that provides nutrients for the first 6-8 weeks of growth. For most short-cycle crops like microgreens and baby salad leaves, you will not need any additional feeding. For herbs and longer-growing salad greens that you plan to keep harvesting beyond two months, we recommend a light feeding with an organic liquid fertiliser every two weeks after the initial six-week period. We include a small sachet of our organic plant food concentrate in the Herb Kit and Balcony System, enough for about four feedings. Additional sachets can be purchased as part of our refill packs or as a standalone accessory for โฌ4.95. We recommend avoiding synthetic fertilisers, as the enclosed planter environment can lead to salt buildup that harms plant roots.

Yes. Our kits contain seeds and dry soil pods, not live plants, so they are not affected by temperature or handling during transit. Everything is packed in sturdy, custom-fit cardboard inserts that prevent the planters from shifting. The packaging is made entirely from recycled and recyclable cardboard and paper. We use zero plastic in our shipping materials. The soil pods are sealed in compostable film to keep them dry until you are ready to plant. If anything does arrive damaged, take a photo and email us. We will send a replacement part immediately at no cost to you.
How our recurring delivery options work
Yes, we offer a seasonal subscription plan that delivers fresh seed and soil refill packs to your door four times a year, timed to match the Irish growing seasons: spring (March), summer (June), autumn (September), and winter (December for indoor microgreens). Each seasonal delivery is curated with varieties that perform best during that period. The subscription costs โฌ14.95 per quarterly delivery and includes free shipping. You save approximately 20% compared to buying the same refill packs individually. You can pause, skip, or cancel your subscription at any time from your account dashboard, with no minimum commitment. Visit our Pricing page for full details on subscription plans.
Absolutely. There is no lock-in period or cancellation fee. You can pause your subscription for one or more seasons if you are going on holiday, renovating, or simply want a break. To pause or cancel, log in to your account, go to "My Subscription," and select the appropriate option. Changes made at least 7 days before the next scheduled dispatch date will apply to that delivery. If you cancel within 7 days of a dispatch, the upcoming delivery will still ship, but no further charges will apply. If you cancel and later want to restart, you can reactivate your subscription at any time and pick up from the next seasonal cycle.
To a degree, yes. When you sign up for a subscription, you can set preferences for your growing focus: herbs, salad greens, microgreens, or a mix of all three. You can also flag any varieties you would prefer not to receive (for example, if you do not like coriander). Our team curates each seasonal box based on these preferences, the current growing season, and what performs best in Irish conditions at that time of year. While we cannot offer fully bespoke selections for every individual subscriber, the preference system ensures you will not receive varieties you dislike. If a delivery contains something unexpected and you would rather swap it, reach out to us within 48 hours of delivery and we will arrange an exchange at no extra cost.
Our commitment to environmentally responsible products
Sustainability is central to how we design and manufacture every product. Our planters are made from a minimum of 80% post-consumer recycled polypropylene. The soil pods use 100% peat-free compost blended from coconut coir, composted bark, and worm castings, all sourced from verified sustainable suppliers in Ireland and the UK. Our seed packets use compostable paper, and the soil pod wrapping is made from compostable PLA film derived from plant starch. All shipping materials are recycled cardboard and paper, with zero plastic. We calculate the carbon footprint of each delivery and offset it through a partnership with a native Irish woodland restoration project in County Wicklow. While no product is perfectly zero-impact, we continuously work to reduce our environmental footprint and are transparent about where we are and where we want to be.
Peat bogs are one of the most important carbon stores on the planet. They accumulate carbon over thousands of years and, when left intact, actively absorb CO2 from the atmosphere. Ireland has some of the most significant peat landscapes in Europe, and their extraction for gardening compost has caused significant ecological damage. Peat-free compost performs just as well for growing plants in containers when the blend is properly formulated. Our soil pods use a mix of coconut coir (a byproduct of the coconut industry), composted bark from sustainably managed Irish forestry, and worm castings for nutrient content. This combination provides excellent moisture retention, drainage, and nutrition for the plants in our kits. By choosing peat-free products, you are helping to protect Irish and European peat bogs and the biodiversity they support.
Yes. Our windowsill planters are made from polypropylene (recycling symbol 5), which is accepted in most kerbside recycling collections across Ireland. Simply rinse them out, remove any soil residue, and place them in your green recycling bin. The Balcony Salad System components can also be recycled: the steel frames go in metal recycling, and the plastic inserts go in plastic recycling. We also run a return and reuse programme where you can send back your old planters to us (using a prepaid label we provide) and receive a 10% discount code for your next purchase. Returned planters are cleaned, inspected, and either reused directly or sent to our recycling partner for processing into new products. The soil pods and their wrapping are fully compostable and can go in your brown compost bin or home compost heap.
